The fact that the free market approach to health care has resulted in such extreme levels of tragedy has really scrambled people's brains that it cannot possibly be appropriate to supply other things
A fun thing about YIMBY dorks is that they are incapable of scrutinizing the hyper capitalist economic model that treats housing as a service that can only be solved via free market principles rather than a human right that may be at odds with endless profit and rent seeking
A fun thing about single stair is that when you ask people defending the status quo on safety grounds to make a judgment call about whether the small buildings that would be allowed under the proposed reforms are more dangerous than the big ones we currently allow they get mad and refuse to answer.

People somewhat reasonably assume that the rules governing our built environments are built on careful assessment of the best available science and rigorous analysis of tradeoffs but in reality it's like 85% vibes.

There are people driving around behind ICE honking their horns to warn people, and then there are the people in the replies too afraid to publicly say they went to a No Kings march

if you are a US citizen doing nothing illegal the people sneering/screaming/scolding that you shouldn't do this are confusing their own mental illness with Opsec.
