I did this again. This time, I used ratings of how good teams were this year, NOT preseason projections. How good the teams have ACTUALLY been by DVOA.
I still ended up with these four teams all missing the playoffs in just 1.1% of simulations.
It was a very weird year.

Out of curiosity, I looked at my original preseason simulation and asked how often BAL, CIN, DET and KC all missed the playoffs.
It gave me 0.06% odds.

I put together a side by side of The Catch (Montana to Clark, 1/10/82) and Caleb to DJ from Sunday (12/14/25).
Pretty incredible how similar they are. Caleb's throw is actually about 15 yards longer. And of course, Joe's is for the NFC title.
