Well, yes, similar to how you can't get fire insurance for a building that's already on fire (and also your CEO keeps giving interviews about how much he loves arson)

The problem that dare not speak its name. Europe's demand for products like steel and cars is diminishing. The growth is happening a long way away. And you probably can't protect what you have and compete somewhere else.

German auto summit tomorrow.

The sole focus on the EU combustion engine phase-out, which is 10 years away, is baffling because German cars have a demand problem today

Berlin worries a new EV subsidy scheme would be fiscally too expensive.

But demand-side support is a fiscal no-brainer here.

“voters will side with the rule of law over authoritarian dictatorship—IF they are presented with this as a clear choice.” Too bad Democrats in leadership positions don’t want to fight authoritarianism

JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are doing something new and important: They understand Stephen Miller's theory of fascist power politics, and they've developed a theory on how to combat it. More Dems need to reckon with Miller's understanding of the moment.

New from me:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

I very rarely have direct contact on newsroom projects anymore, but this is cool because I did work with folks to help with the original collection protocol to make sure this information was handled and stored privately and wouldn't leave us with a re-identifiable dataset.
