The reason DnD has 20-level classes is because it uses a d20 system and it originally had an extra step during character creation that was taken out last minute:

DETERMINE YOUR LEVEL: Roll a d20. The result is the level of your character at the beginning of the game.

I wrote my first blog post ever! I use this all the time and think a lot of other ttrpg creators will find this process useful!

Also I plan to make a version of this for Affinity, the process is similar but takes some tweaking since there aren't smart objects in Affinity - but know it is possible!
