Hmm. These are all much worse than posted headways (6 min for 49 late night, 20 min for the light rail lines). I do sometimes take the 14, 22, and 49 around that time and find them reasonably close to the official headways...

Note that the downsizing is not final until the BOS approves the development agreement. I and others will be calling on them to demand the restoration of the housing before a yes vote. It's not a "cost savings" to just not build affordable housing SF badly needs!

Yikes! Especially the M and J. I rarely ride the Muni light rail lines at this time of night, how unusual is it for it to be like this? And is there any chance it's a prediction bug or do you think it's definitely really that long of a wait for the M and J?

I help make an app that does this, & does better than Google at avoiding high-traffic streets w/o separation from cars. But we only support the SF Bay Area in California to keep server costs manageable:

We'd love to work with people in other areas to start their own instances.

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

Yes! We need a social housing developer. We can start small and build up. I’m working on a writeup of this panel where we learned about Seattle’s campaign

Seattle organized, fought back, and won big for social housing. Is it our turn in San Francisco?

Thanks to Eric Lee and Shanti Singh for an inspiring conversation on organizing for social housing and fighting back against political roadblocks. Join us in the fight to build public housing for all!

There are so many mundane things that NEED to be done that aren't chaining yourself to a fence and getting pepper sprayed.
- buying cases of bottled water and snacks for protestors
- making copies of "know your rights" cards
- taking care of their pets/kids while they're at the protest
laurajedeed.bsky.social
Just heard someone say that if you aren't willing to get arrested or die at a protest you aren't serious about the cause and that's a) not true and b) not helpful

You don't need to have a death wish to fight for a better world, and anyone who says you do is throwing up a massive red flag

Important to know: SFMTA's proposal to cut the possibility for ~350 affordable homes from the Potrero Yard project is *not* a final decision. There will be a development agreement the BOS votes on. The BOS can and should insist on keeping the affordable housing for their vote.
graue.bsky.social
SFMTA represented it as a "cost savings" not to build a podium (thus making housing above the yard impossible). But it isn't a savings when we don't get the 350 units of needed affordable housing. Siloed thinking - and likely laundering Lurie's lack of interest in funding the housing
jerold.bsky.social
I'm at the SFMTA board meeting. A few highlights from Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum's report:

-the Potrero Yard Modernization Project has drastically changed with no housing units above the the new bus yard due given construction costs, interest rates, volatility of market.
graue.bsky.social
I would definitely not accept this decision as final just yet. To clarify, the proposal would eliminate ~350 of the originally planned ~450 units, leaving ~100 along the border of the lot

Excited to see this move forward! San Francisco needs a public bank to invest in affordable housing, green infrastructure, and small businesses. Thanks for leading on this SF Public Bank Coalition and @jackiefielder.bsky.social

2/3 of likely San Francisco voters support the idea of a public bank, a new poll shows.

Thatt’s a pretty dramatic outcome for an issue that isn’t even on the ballot.
New poll shows resounding support for public bank in San Francisco - 48 hills
Across demographic groups, 67 percent favor the concept

He hasn't signed the other bills yet, but he still has days to do so
This headline is misleading for not mentioning that.

The gender education veto is bad, but far from the most important trans rights bill on his desk.

There's still time to contact Newsom for the rest!

If it seems like our mayor only cares about fellow rich people, it might have something to do with his brother being a luxury real estate agent who thinks SF has a "mansion shortage"

www.sfchronicle.com/realestate/a...
Local return-to-office policies are helping to fuel the resurgence, said luxury real estate agent Alexander Fromm Lurie, who is the brother of San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie.

The city’s existing “mansion shortage,” coupled with “a massive influx of buyers who want to be back in the city,” is making it difficult for even his wealthiest clients to find quality housing, according to Lurie.

I was told not to teach a class on the intellectual histories of Zionism and Anti-Zionism next year - not because they doubted I could teach it fairly, but because it would attract too many politicians scrutinizing the syllabus.

A society where that is a valid fear is no longer fully democratic.

You said "the point," the relevant definition of which is, "A purpose or objective." However likely or unlikely, a consequence that was unforeseen by and not the objective of Prop E's backers cannot be "the point" of E.

My dream is an elevated Yellow Line running above Lyndale in South, Hennepin downtown, and Central in Northeast. That would be the train that would transform Minneapolis into a Transit City like Chicago, NYC, DC or SF. I know it seems unlikely.

Casting a wide net: does anyone know resources for urgent mental health wellness checks in Richmond, CA that won't send cops? Suffice to say I got a concerning email from a stranger to a variety of government addresses and this person needs help
