Many thanks to @va-nated.bsky.social for making me aware of this #Smithsonian exhibit! Planning a trip to see it soon.

Reducing light pollution is important to me because of its impact on #fireflies & our proximity in #Waynesboro to bird #migration routes, but we humans need a #darksky too.

@darkskyintl.bsky.social offers #DarkSky friendly holiday lighting tips to help you decorate without causing trouble for #wildlife.

As always, lighting should be warm-toned, no brighter than needed, downward-focused (or shielded, like by eaves), and limited in duration. Also, useful! (1/2)

Found at random while looking for something else, and this is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.

Finally got holiday tree #2 up a few nights ago! It has all the shiny things on it. The way the beads turned out is so satisfying to me.

Got my sign and tote bag from the #XercesSociety today! Psst, hey @xercessociety.bsky.social, I would wear the heck out of a t-shirt with that tote bag design. In multiple colors. And a sweatshirt. Just sayin’.

Holiday tree #1! It’s very hard to find good results searching for “ #nontraditional tree,” but after pages & pages good things turned up. I’m a little in love I think.

Reusing/redirecting materials that otherwise require burning or landfill space and/or demand resource use for disposal is one of many benefits of a #deadhedge. For me, they’re restful to my eyes as well. We hope to incorporate one into our little landscape somehow.

Added another side to our dead hedge over the Summer and Autumn. This would have been bonfired, so it's good for our environment and wildlife to have turned it into a hedge. Looks good too. 🌱

Came home from getting coffee this morning to find a native Carolina mantis (Stagmomantis carolina) beside my front door. Not sure I’ve ever seen one before - we always have the Chinese mantises.

I might cry.

Accidentally disturbed this young lady, a northern black widow (Latrodectus variolus) according to Seek, while weeding this evening. She’s itty bitty (or itsy bitsy)! I think she’s too young to be married, let alone a widow.
