First day in one week not sleeping with the work phone next to my bed - counting this as a win!

The Post-Event Summary for this week's event in North Virginia (us-east-1) is now out at: aws.amazon.com/message/1019...

Whether you were impacted or not, I believe it's a valuable read: there are a ton of lessons learned, for us and for the broader industry.

How do a sev1 and a baby rank in terms of difficulty for an engineer?

Asking for a friend who just got out of a day log call and who has a baby on the way.

Been stuck in my mind for 4 days now: this picture was taken in London, UK.

Do defibrillators really run at 110V (requiring a transformer I guess) or did they run out of the right 230V labels?

After about one year of detox, I feel it's time for a comeback!

PSA for US friends: would you please come collect your Trump? Someone let him out by mistake and he made it to the UK!

I've this 20 years old slide by Jeff Dean making a point that "fault tolerant software is inevitable" - feels so strange there is still so much resistance today to this extremely simple principle.

I really hope, but strongly doubt, Netanyahu/Hegseth/Trump know what they are doing.

It's beyond me why/how most airlines don't allow you to save passenger information in your account, and require giant forms to be filled every time.

Like, it's not that my birth date is gonna change anytime soon.

Our new report: local political parties are renting out office space to MPs — who claim the cost on expenses.

But in most cases, they pay no tax on that income — or on rent from local businesses.

We reviewed 630 sets of accounts. What we found is a systemic failure. 🧵

I need an album "Fires in New Providence Wharf" at this point.

Ps: can't we just ban any sort of smoking inside and outside blocks of flats?

Impose tariffs on everything from everywhere

Cancel such tariffs except for China

Also cancel tariffs for China’s main export

…but sure, they know what they are doing.

Liz Truss tried her best but, as with so many things, if you want something done properly, you need to get the Americans to do it.

Politics of the last few weeks are just unreal.

- Trump: China is imposing 67% tariffs on us, we’ll respond with 34%
- China: fine, we’ll do 34% too
- Trump: if you do 34% we do 84%

How does this even make sense? How do people not realise the 67% was totally made up?

International stamps in UK (for a letter / postcard) went from £1.60 in 2021 to 2.20, 2.50, 2.80 and finally 3.20 in 2025.

NEW 🧵

A quick thread of charts showing how Trump’s economic agenda is going so far:

1) US consumers are reacting very very negatively.

These are the worst ratings for any US government’s economic policy since records began.

Today we’re onboard the special SAS Destination Unknown flight. As the name suggests, no one on board knows where we’re headed. Be sure to leave your guesses as we get going!

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

The plot thickens - LHR did have redundant power (3N), just for some reason didn’t use it.

Curious to see what comes out of the inquiry.

The surprising thing about the North Hyde / Hayes substation fire is that London Heathrow's operations immediately decided to close the airport for 24 hours, well before the recovery time was known.

Does anyone know why? Any guess? Why pushing out recovery so far so early?

I can’t sleep so I’m gonna drop two unrequested, unpopular opinions here.

1 - Europe crying at US for dropping support and alliance is simply laughable. There’s no obligation for anyone to come change our diapers. Time to stop regulating ourselves into oblivion and start building, maybe? 1/2
