an unfortunate part of being morally opposed to using a website owned by someone who says “Canada is not a real country” is a lot of B.C.’s core public institutions still exclusively use that website to give incremental updates on news

City of Vancouver council meetings, TransLink, BC Ferries, etc.

As a neuroscientist who studies urban stress, loud cars/motorcycles should be banned, or fined excessively until drivers reassess their need to broadcast their self esteem with unnecessary noise pollution. I don’t need to hear your car in my apartment.

Can someone please come build something like this on Vancouver Island?
Christopher Village approved by Greensboro City Council, 9-0. Commons, forests, and squares; mixed-use & live/work; pocket neighborhoods; 6 kinds of #MissingMiddleHousing; interconnected, tree-lined streets, midblock alleys, lanes, passages; houses fronting trails; compact form.

15+ years old, but still VERY relevent — and if we had acted 15 years ago, the “better world” we’d be creating would be a LOT better & easier to reach. There are real consequences we’re just starting to see to not heeding this cartoon a lot sooner. Even worse if we don’t heed it now. #ClimateCrisis

Canada didn’t want this fight.

Canada didn’t start this fight.

This fight makes absolute zero rational sense, between any two trading partners, let alone close friends and allies.

Canada did everything we could to avoid this fight.

But Canada doesn’t back down from a fight.

IMPORTANT: If you live in the United States or Canada, you’ve probably heard Trump‘s constant claim that the United States is “subsidizing” Canada. It’s wrong of course, but here’s the best explanation I’ve seen about how & why it’s wrong. PLEASE WATCH & SHARE IT A LOT. Kudos to Andrew Chang & CBC.

someone is asking how townhouse development could be worse than Metro Vancouver (which I think is actually pretty good all things consider). I give you suburban Toronto townhouses . . .

the number of units lost in the fire is likely equivalent to like an entire year's housing production in the city of Los Angeles, almost all at the very high end of the market

I find this SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING than what’s going on inside any stadium no matter who the artist is. The planned or spontaneous expansion of what’s happening inside into “the outside,” the ubiquitous civic life of a whole city. This weekend in #Vancouver has been amazing. #TaylorSwift #ErasTour
They are currently a couple thousand Swifties outside BC Place stadium in Vancouver singing along even though they can’t see her and they are having a GREAT time

Rampell: If you voted for Trump because you thought he was going to bring down the cost of housing, a lot of our lumber, cement, and other materials comes from Canada, which means that construction costs are going to go up

Housing costs go brrrr
If you voted out the incumbent because you thought housing prices were too high, got more bad news from you.
We import $105B in cement/lime/minerals and $28B in lumber/paper from Canada. We also *already* tariff that lumber to death
Expect construction costs to go through the roof (so to speak)

Canadian version, calibrated to Canadian headship rates of 1981, the time when household formation peaked across Canada. Story is the same, housing outcomes improved prior and deteriorated after, with Montreal and Quebec continuing to translate rising incomes into increased household formation.
