Yes. But the EU appeasement towards Trump is I think based on the, in my view mistaken, view that it will delay the end of US assistance against Putin

Since this ultimately comes out of the same budget that pays for everything else the NHS does, it becomes hard to justify. Good that it's available privately so people can make their own choice about whether it's worth it. Shame it's not cheaper.

There's a bunch of optional stuff which stops immediately in an annoying way - national park centres, driving licence office etc. The staff don't get paid and they're sent home.
The army and the FBI do have to work but they don't get paid I think? Then after a few weeks they fix it and get backpay

This reminds me of a New years day in Spain many years ago. I was taking the kids for a morning walk around 8am. Across the square we saw two dudes in suits and Santa hats. One of them pointed and said "Alli hay un bar abierto"
