Morning, not sure if anyone has heard of the Music League app (PS it's great fun) but this week I had to nominate a guilty pleasure track. I initially went for this one but realised I'm not guilty or embarrassed about it (went for Shakin' Stevens instead, sorry Shaky)

In fair fettle. Like you it’s been a bit hectic. The start of the year always seems seriously front loaded with things.

We built a really strong consensus by employing a really broad ranging research team when we built our approach to curriculum. No Leaders just ‘boots on the ground’ teachers. Loads of reading to make it bullet proof. We had to switch the ‘lower prior attainers get easy stuff’ mindset from some.

Hi Zoe, for me/us it is entitlement, everyone deserves to have access to the best we have to offer. I think most staff would say something close to that but it’s been a hard won change.

Why do we need a Y8 reading test?

There could be a few things the DfE is trying to achieve, argues Jessie Ricketts, but what the DfE is proposing is unlikely to achieve any of them.

Superb, balanced piece from Jessie as always.

Not surprised by the research discussed here by @carlhendrick.substack.com. I find meaningful speech incredibly distracting that I don’t find with other noise. (Living in countries where I often don’t understand conversations has made me much more aware of this).

There is lots of important points in this from @didau.bsky.social One of the areas that I believe is given too little thought when discussing the value of partnership between mainstream and special schools is assessment, particularly of foundational concepts. Understanding not just the what, 1/2

NEW If assessment is the bridge between teaching & learning, what happens when the bridge is raised? Too often poor assessment leads to labelling, misplaced intervention & children stranded on the far bank. Thanks to @rlrossi64.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/daviddid...

Morning all. Pretty much my whole musical outlook was forged by watching Snub TV back in the day. This was the 'lightbulb' song where it started.
