bonus update: my water will be off again today for probably at least an hour but this time my landlord (who is just a guy) let me know and i have prepared by attending to various watery tasks and filling numerous containers with the stuff of life

pro: he does not have the full power of bureaucracy to screw me over
con: i have to pretend like it's fine that he didn't tell me my water would be shut off for maintenance

my least favorite thing is that the same technology that improves ai safety, with supervisor models and whatnot, can probably also be used for this with just a few changes
