The thing about people with no vices is you can be sure they've got some pretty shitty virtues

Finally got round to setting up a Substack! And I've published the piece I shared with a few of you last month - on the intellectual crisis within Labour's liberal wing.

Intellectually adrift, where does Labour’s liberal wing go from here?
The tradition of Gaitskell, Crosland, Jenkins, Blair and Brown stands at a crossroads.

The thing that's always frustrated the right wing ideologues who've glommed onto Trump is that he doesn't have the attention span to actually be a committed ideological warrior. He can scream all the right culture war shit, but it's just WWE pugilistic showmanship. He basically has no belief system.
Trump frickin' loves this guy lmao

And that ingrate is named Stephen Miller.
you genuinely have to wonder if there's at least one person in The White House wondering if they should pull the removal lever on Trump just because he's not the ideologue the New Right wants

And god drew his finger across the sky making a rainbow, a special promise that you f**s were really gonna get it in the neck for a few thousand years, but you'll get a cool symbol at the end of it

I -do- think about this, and it's often torturous. I can't look at the ease and smugness with which certain politicians say and act as they do and come to the conclusion they feel the same.
not to sound like a fundamentalist here but you ever wonder if these people ever imagine standing before the Divine and justifying their actions
I suspect the line about cars, e bikes, &c points not just to attacking people applying from temporary work visas, but more generally to a future migration crisis stemming from a major European war.

The status updates are getting increasingly pass-agg. Having managed a much, much smaller crisis like this, I can hear the 'every moment I'm explaining this to you is a moment I'm not fixing it' coming from engineering.

Since twitter is down I'm reacquainting with the vibe here. Twitter for me is like being in the smoking area of some weird gay club, whereas this feels like the coffee shops I'd frequent as a student, all hanging plants and people typing their substacks

I cannot conceive of a reality in which the Man In Black is not extremely cool. I'm not a country boy at all, but I am a Johnny Cash boy
Compared to Dylan and Springsteen, country-music legend Johnny Cash can seem deeply uncool. It took time for me to appreciate his profound, plainspoken strength, writes Jon Fasman.

Getting mighty tired of the meme on here of “oh, it is just so difficult for the government to set the agenda”. The government (which literally employs thousands of press officers) is setting the agenda - it’s just that it is setting it on toxic ground it can’t win.

I quite like Peter Kyle, but I dislike the constant urge to shit on people who vote labour. I get it when we're trying to win people over before an election, but there's no need in year 2 of the government.
There's a whole convention of European ministers complaining about the low ambition of their students compared to what they say American students are like and always - always - when they say 'American students' they mean 'Stanford'.

I'm just saying if I combed it the right way I could almost pull this look off, if somebody wanted to paint me like one of your french g- , french postmen
Joseph Roulin was a postal worker at the Arles train station. Vincent van Gogh went there frequently to send paintings to his brother Theo, and they became close friends. In 1888 and 1889, Vincent painted six portraits of Joseph in the uniform he always wore proudly.

So the council has created a team of about half a dozen people it calls 'caretakers' to go and trim hedges, unblock gutters, mow lawns, weed etc. handy work really. But since it was announced a few days back I've had about four different chats about how good it is.
