I disagreed a lot with Biden, especially with Afghanistan. But it’s important to recognise that he’s acting under immense constraints on domestic issues. We may look back on these 4 years as the last period when values seem to (at least superficially) matter.

Drawing on what’s happened in China, such moves inevitably lead to more restrictions on defence lawyers. In China, only government appointed lawyers are allowed to represent dissidents, in closed trials. We’re seeing democratic influence wane each and every day.

I think the left should move beyond the language of “servility”. True, some were pressured by Trump. But in most cases, it benefits them. It’s therefore collusion. Just because they want to keep their job (unlike Liz Cheney) doesn’t mean they’re passive victims.
