For a long time renewable energy uptake in Africa was lacklustre at best.

But that is changing: Solar panel imports to Africa have surged over the past year—a shift poised to touch nearly every country on the continent as new Ember analysis shows.

The U.K. fishing industry - weaponised & then betrayed & then abandoned, by Johnson, Farage & the rest of them - is better off under Starmer’s deal than it was under Johnson’s. That’s not an opinion. It’s counting. Anyone claiming otherwise is a liar.

This is potentially very important. There are some obvious follow-ups that could tighten the argument but the basic conclusion that emitters of CO2 (direct or indirect, scope 1 or scope 3) can be linked (proportionately) to damages seems clear.
Can scientists trace climate losses back to the emissions from individual fossil fuel companies?

Yes, we can.

Ocean heat content (OHC) in 2024

Global full-depth OHC gain since 1960 reached a record 452 ± 77 zetajoules (ZJ) in 2024. OHC was 15 ± 9 ZJ higher than in 2023, primarily associated with warming in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans

1 ZJ = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 J

Aspirin (safe but low impact) is a terrible analogy here.

chemotherapy is the better analogy if we must use the cancer metaphor — powerful but risky, potentially a net benefit despite direct harms, and you wouldn't even consider it if things weren't really bad
