I’m old enough to remember when the Director General of the BBC categorically didn’t resign after one of its flagship politics shows literally photoshopped Jeremy Corbyn with a Soviet hat and painted red with the Kremlin in the background like some kind of Cold War-era communist mural.

@gregjenner.bsky.social Saw you at Gloucester today and one of your slides said to say hello on Bluesky. So hello and thank you for being part of a thoroughly humane festival.

I used to get told off by people for calling certain people fascists - apparently it weakened the word - now, those people I called fascists are being fascists - what really weakens the word is not using it when we can try and stop them and only use it when they have power

Grimly hilarious that Peter Mandelson "worked every day" to undermine Jeremy Corbyn but has undermined Keir Starmer far more effectively with no apparent effort.

I fear @mainstreamlabour.bsky.social is too little too late. I had an email today from the last two members who were in my local branch when I first joined Labour in the 1980s. They have resigned and are minded to join @greenparty.org.uk.

.. despised by the right wing press and the victim of repeated slurs and lies designed to undermine her personally and politically.
Two things can be true at once. Rayner was foolish in her conduct and right to resign. It’s also true she was always despised by much of the right wing press because she was a working class powerful woman.

Twenty seven people who donated £50m in total to the last Tory government were given seats in House of Lords. And some still argue against an elected second chamber.

Steve Reed's announcements today amount to this: Privatised water companies will continue to pump sewage into rivers for at least 1.8 million hours a year for the foreseeable future while putting up prices and paying the bosses seven figure salaries. We can't afford to keep water private.

I don't get it being a moral imperative to condemn future generations of disabled people to greater hardship and poverty when it looks like the money saved will be spent on weapons of war. Surely Starmer has to withdraw the bill and think again?

Between 2011 and 2023, 816 care homes in England were forcibly closed by the regulator for poor standards and harms to residents.

804 were owned by for-profit entities. 30% -40% of fees vanish in profits, leaving less for services.

Profits and care don't mix.
New analysis: most care homes closed by industry regulator are run
A new analysis led by researchers at the University of Oxford and funded by the Nuffield Foundation has found that virtually all care homes forced to close in England by the Care Quality Commission

A short 🧵on Rivers.

We think of rivers as natural, ancient forces — winding through landscapes, sustaining life. But what if they're no longer what they seem? 1/5

The Prime Minister We Never Had: Jeremy Corbyn and the Perils of Political Drift 2025 and onwards.
Ah in the photo above, Jeremy Corbyn—the man who could have been the saviour of this broken nation, but instead, we got a string of Conservative disasters, each one more embarrassing than the last.

The US, UK, Germany and other Western nations have enabled Israel’s genocide in Gaza, eroding the rules-based international order established after WWII.

Yet millions worldwide understand: silence on Palestine is complicity in a system that will treat all of us as disposable.

Roads and paths and rights of way are as important to human history as ancient churches and towns and cities. They tell us what people were doing, they tell us where people wanted to go and what got in their way. I can't believe that ancient paths & roads are treated with such contempt by planners.
