Head Start is a 60-year-old US Department of Health and Human Services program that, among other things, creates inclusive and accessible classrooms for children with disabilities. But those applying for funding were told by the Trump regime to avoid the words "inclusion" and "disability." 🤡
Head Start centers told to avoid 'disability,' 'women' and more in funding requests
New court documents reveal a list of nearly 200 words or phrases the Trump administration told Head Start programs it does not want to see in their funding requests.

If students were aware of the treatment options for mental illnesses, would they be more likely to seek help? Appel et al. aim to figure this out in an interesting cross-sectional study. More on that in the link below!

All the artificial light we're pouring into the night is prompting birds to chirp for nearly an extra hour a day on average, according to a recent study of >4 million bird call recordings. Light pollution disturbs birds who depend on the rhythms of the sun to find food and mates, for migration, etc.

Today in 1945, a silver aeroplane flew through a clear blue sky. From its fuselage, a man released a single bomb.

Falling for 45 seconds, the bomb exploded in a flash of light.

In that flash, and its blast, fire and radiation, an unknowable number - many tens of thousands - would die. #Hiroshima80

Driven by climate change, these increasingly frequent and extreme ocean temperature events, like “the Blob” in the North Pacific, are devastating marine life, disrupting fisheries, and impacting weather patterns. 🌊

Happy World Ocean Day!

The ocean is the heart of our life support system, without which we'd all be dead. It's taken up >90% of the heat from global warming and 25% of our CO₂ emissions. In return, we give it 11 million tonnes of plastic annually, which animals ingest and also become entangled in.
Oceans Awash in Plastic Waste
On a day that many might be headed to the beach, take a moment to consider some of the widespread impacts of all of that plastic, and the ongoing efforts to clean it up.
