Not only will they not change their mind, they will double down. And I get it. There's always the hope for some that prosecution will be a deterrent. For cops, #1. prosecution hardly ever happens; #2. is rarely actually successful. #3. IS NOT A DETERRENT.

Those stats are inaccurately represented in popular discourse anyway. MANY of the revolutions that are touted as examples of nonviolent success involved some amount of property destruction, reactive violence (collective acts of self defense), and unarmed violence (physical resistance without guns).
