Over five decades, volunteers have walked a combined total of 950,000 miles at more than 7,000 sites, carried out 715,000 surveys and recorded more than 41 million butterflies!

RIP Robin Smith. He played 62 Test matches for England scoring 4,236 runs at 43.67 with 9 tons. He also appeared in 71 ODI’s scoring 2,419 runs at 39.01. In all 1st class games he tallied 26,155 runs at 41.51 & 14,927 runs in List A cricket at 41.12. #cricketcounts

Freezing morning, warm bed but persuaded myself that the Winter Bird Survey was worth getting up for. A calling Treecreeper probably most different bird to usual, nice couple of Fallow Deer giving good Christmas sleigh impression across frosty ground. @bbs-birds.bsky.social #essexbirding

It is 11% higher than last year.

Cricket's obsession with crass marketing has absolutely ruined it for me, and I'm sure many other former fans. The crisp packet monstrosity that is the Hundred was the final straw. Test cricket was part of the summer calendar but it's all been flattened in a desperate chase for every penny possible.
