I joked about it but it may actually be worthwhile for every Dem who gets on tv to start saying Stephen Miller is the real president

U.S. Northern Command says that elements of the Texas national guard are now “employed in the greater Chicago area.”

The statement claims that they’ve been deployed to protect ICE and federal property.

Effective today, elements of the Texas National Guard, under Title 10 authority and command and control of U.S. Northern Command, are employed in the greater Chicago area.
These soldiers are employed to protect U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other
U.S. Government personnel who are performing federal functions, including the enforcement of federal law, and to protect federal property.

With this Court there’s no need to engage in legal analysis, cogent or otherwise. White self-described Christians are always right, everyone else is always wrong, oh and you can never sue the government for anything. That’s it, that’s the rule.

I thought we deadnamed Twitter on purpose, to delegitimize its new ownership. But even if so, that seems a mistake now, since it’s so different than it once was.

15 years ago, my aunt was legitimately ANGRY at me for not posting regularly to Facebook, because that was how our family communicated with one another. Now, the idea that I would put something personal on "social media" seems truly crazy. Why do we still insist on calling it that?

Social media, meaning the spaces for people to meet and socialize globally, has been dead for possibly 10 years already.

What we have now is parasocial media: a form of mass media where there’s illusion of relationships covering a high virality broadcast tool controlled by algorithms.

In the last two weeks these feds have choked & beaten protesters, broken bones, given people concussions from munitions, pointed their sidearms at people, tear gassed a neighborhood, shot reporters in the face, destroyed neighbors' property, threatened elected officials

No National Guard necessary

I don't want 100 troops sent to Chicago. It's a major escalation that must be opposed. I also want folks to understand that the agents that have been attacking us at Broadview are more heavily armed and elaborately, tactically outfitted than National Guard troops would be. We're already in some shit
A large group of ICE agents in full tactical gear.

The president just gathered the highest ranking officers in the military to tell them that he may order them to kill American citizens -- and that they better follow his orders. All in response to a series of crises that have no basis in reality.

I don't know how to yell any louder.

What ICE is doing right now in Chicago is called a “Kavanaugh stop” and no one should ever call it anything else.

Kristi Noem: How DARE you accuse our glorious ICE agents of racial profiling.

Head of the Chicago raids: We are stopping people based on “how they look, how do they look compared to, say,” a tall, middle aged white guy.

In which a top US Border Patrol official, incredibly, tells my tall and Anglo colleague @chipmitchell1.bsky.social that he's not the type they're looking for as they go about downtown Chicago arresting people based on "how they look"

I will start teaching my students how to use AI when my colleagues in computer science start to teach Homer, Dante, Langston Hughes, Borges, Foucault, Audre Lord, Spivak, and Donna Haraway in their classes

I realize many people don’t quite get that not every single professor in every single university teaches computer science and might actually be trained in and invested in teaching other things, like let’s say, history? Or poetry.
Or sociology.
It is not our job to teach students how to use AI.
matt94250.bsky.social
If you don’t teach your students how to use AI, you’re doing them a huge disservice because they won’t have jobs in the future.

It's pretty wild to me that investigators have uncovered that anti-trans campaigns are largely funded by the fossil fuel industry, and that the presumed motivations are pretty directly to redirect the public conversation away from climate change... and that this isn't bigger news.

All those people that canceled this weekend aren't suddenly going to resubscribe! One fun thing was that Disney pushed out a ton of new trailers in the last week that they were probably planning to sit on.

Certiorari "before judgment" is how #SCOTUS takes up a full appeal *before* the intermediate federal courts have heard it.

It used to be exceedingly rare. For instance, there wasn't a *single* grant of such expedited review b/w August 2004 & February 2019.

This is the *23rd* such grant since then.

#BREAKING: Over dissents from Justices Sotomayor, Kagan & Jackson, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the Slaughter case (allowing President Trump to remove the last Dem member of the FTC), *and* grants certiorari "before judgment" to decide whether to formally overrule its 1935 ruling in Humphrey's Executor.

FINAL: No. 17 Indiana defeats No. 8 Illinois 63-10. As dominant of a performance as this stadium has ever seen, all things considered.

Hoosiers are 4-0, 1-0 in Big Ten play. At Iowa next Saturday. #iufb

I know it's frustrating when lawyers point out when something the administration is doing is not legal. But responding with "the law doesn't matter anymore" is really unhelpful and defeatist. Clarifying the law is important because it reminds us not to comply in advance and to resist and take action
