The new National Security Strategy is a propaganda document, designed to be widely read. It is also a performative suicide. Hard to think of another great power ever abdicating its influence so quickly and so publicly. It will be worth following the reactions around the world, not just in Europe.

Stephen Miller declared military people who do not follow orders without question are part of rebellion. And that urging military people to not follow illegal orders is rebellion. I work in the health care industry and if I follow an illegal order I lose my license.

You don’t need to watch Seth Meyers to see the danger here. Presidents in democracies don’t demand that critics be fired, and federal regulators don’t amplify those demands. It undermines editorial independence and chills dissent.
