It’s been challenging for municipal candidates running in the election to get traction, & the postal strike isn’t helping. If you have the time, please sign up for some lit drops on a local campaign.

And give the Calgary Party candidates in your ward a look. Let’s not let Danielle Smith win.

Davison is all slogans. Farkas is getting hammered on his previous record as a councillor. (He's matured and admitted he made mistakes before.) Sharp is getting hammered on her voting record & her friend Danielle Smith. Thiessen is doing well, and Gondek is doing well.

I like the water utility idea too—builds accountability and focus. Davison complaining is somehow on brand. 🤣

I’ve always liked him. Now I like him even more.

Eby: “What the conservatives in Alberta are pushing is an entirely political creation in the lead up to their election for wedge politics at the expense of British Columbia and Canada’s economy.”

Danielle Smith loves to pick fights but if I were her I might have thought twice about picking one with a guy who is 6’7”, spits facts, and absolutely nailed the real reason she’s shilling for a pipeline.

This is very good and now I’d like the 90 second explainer on what to do about it.

Because Communities First is a UCP-backed party... they'll never criticise the province.

. . And one of the best things about it was that it made room for twice-exceptional students too. Perhaps there needs to be a discussion about what the Public System can offer in terms of programming but then again it needs to get off life-support first.

We have experience with the 'gifted' stream within the public system. Not perfect (is anything?) but it had tremendous value--primarily in providing a peer group that was invigorating for students and providing exemplary prep for post-secondary programs. 👇

Thanks for your perspective, much appreciated. It's funny but when I think of private schools my mind goes to the ones focussed on academics and business networking (in Calgary that's Strathcona, Webber, etc.). I don't see the benefits of those 'streams' as much but I'll have to think on it.

I promise not to come at you. ☮️

Tell me more, particularly their benefits vis-a-vis public schools?

“As blackmail notes go, this is right up there. Do as I say – risk your government, Canada’s international climate commitments, relations with Indigenous groups, and God knows what else – or we blow up the country.”

Danielle Smith’s pipeline ransom note to Mark Carney is using Canada as her hostage
Pressing the Prime Minister for a commitment is fair play. But the Alberta Premier’s dramatic ultimatum over a pipeline is unreasonable

Elections Alberta has approved a citizen-initiated petition application to gather signatures in support of the proposal to end public funding to independent/private schools.

Calgary teacher Alicia Taylor says she brought it forward because it could help improve funding for public schools. #AbEd
Alberta teacher prompts petition on province's private school funding | CBC News
If high school chemistry teacher Alicia Taylor gets her wish, Albertans will vote in a referendum on whether to end public funding for independent schools.

Keep Dolly Parton in your heart tonight
If you pray include her in your prayers
Apparently she's having some serious health issues
She's always been a force for good
and a beacon of love & kindness in song
The world (and especially America) needs her more than ever
in these challenging times RS

I think for Halloween I may put on a blue suit, a strand of pearls and a brown wig, and wander around saying “Well look,” in an authoritative but slightly pissy tone because that’s the scariest thing in Alberta right now.
