As we wait for House Ag to drop, a reminder that:
- SNAP benefit amounts are literally thrifty
- SNAP work requirements do not increase employment (but participating in SNAP does)
- State cost sharing + restricting work requirement waivers will destroy SNAP's effectiveness as an automatic stabilizer

DOI was notified of competitive areas on April 15. They have to wait 30 days to take action (RIF)- that is next week.

This story validates the concern.

Of our 8000+ employees in January, 1500 have opted into voluntary departures. Another 1000 were removed from FWS and consolidated to DOI.
Thousands of layoffs to hit Interior, National Parks imminently
Employees fear diminished capacity after RIFs are tacked on to existing mass exodus.

Mr. “Trauma is the Point” Vought signed the letter introducing the FY26 budget.

Worth a hard look.

For FWS:
- grant programs down $170 mil
- Endangered species to combine with Natl Marine Fisheries and down $37 mil
- creation of Wildland Fire Service

FWS update to continue the trend of Friday Duckery.

Employees being consolidated to DOI have started receiving their notifications via email.

1) Most knew in advance. It is still hard.

2) Some who changed jobs got the notice based on their old position. We are hoping this will be corrected?!?

This is a big deal and threatens to further erode protections of the Endangered Species Act.

Defenders of Wildlife summarizes the issue well. Basically, if protections are overturned the rule may not be resubmitted.

i do not care who he is

i do not care what he's done

i care that he has been inhumanely and illegally kidnapped by the government and sent to a concentration camp
