Europe doesn’t need an apocalypse to lose to Russia. All it takes is a”bad peace"in Ukraine&a few well-timed crises in Europe itself. The essence of the scenario isn’t that Russia will”defeat NATO"in a major war.The essence is that the Kremlin can win without a major war

“Mark Carney got one of the very, very few standing ovations in the more than 50 year history of the World Economic Forum. All. Because. He. Essentially. Told. Trump. To. Go. To. Hell.”
Mark your calendars. This week marks the beginning of the end for Trump. Unfortunately, thanks to his ugly blundering, it also marks the end for an era of American leadership and international partnership that shall be sorely missed. open.substack.com/pub/davidrot...

“Danish citizens are organising a huge boycott that includes cancelling planned holidays in the US, cancelling subscriptions to on-demand services based in the US & more generally, recommending the use of EU services instead of those provided by American platforms.”

So, same as Canadians.

We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King.

This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.

January 6 was like a much dumber version of Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch and yet a plurality of American voters were like, Yeah, let’s give that guy the nuke codes again. An absolutely world historical debacle of societal ignorance. I’ll never understand it.

The conditions that have led to what’s happening in the US today exist in democracies around the world.
They are an inevitable outcome of our collective failure to adapt to fundamental changes in the information ecosystem on which our democracies were originally built.

The wealthiest people in the world did this. They took away the last link these children had to life for no good reason. It's truly sickening.

It's hard to watch a new season of Black Mirror when you've been living through a never-ending episode about fascism.

One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse

The first episode of BLACK MIRROR season 7 is brutal because it's so believable. Ooof. Unfortunately, Musk, the GOP and the broligarchy will use it for ideas.

I have a trade deficit with Walmart. I buy all my groceries from them, but they never buy anything from me.

So I’ve decided to set 20% of what I spend with them on fire to encourage me to make my own groceries.

The reason the U.S. runs trade deficits with so many countries is simple: it's wealthy. Being rich means it can afford to buy more goods from other nations than it exports.

It’s akin to accusing your bartender of unfair trade because you buy more drinks from him than he buys from you.🤦
This is nonsense

The irony of Americans electing a fascist because they were more concerned about getting lower grocery prices than saving democracy and then they end up losing democracy AND getting higher grocery prices 🤦🏽‍♂️
Coffee, shrimp, other foods could soar with Trump tariffs
The food hit hardest, if the tariffs take effect, is mostly not grown or harvested in the U.S.
