State Fair season is a particularly exciting time of year for residents of the mid-cities, as Sunday service on the TRE makes it much easier for, say, students at UTA to travel around the region on Sundays. I hope that TRE Sunday service will be extended year-round soon!

For the duration of the State Fair, the Orange Line will run to Parker Road full-time; there will be additional Green Line trains running between Victory and Lawnview during midday on weekdays and all day on weekends; and the TRE will run hourly on Sundays.

Today is the first day of the 2025 State Fair of Texas! From today until October 19th, DART is running additional rail service to accommodate fairgoers.

DC's Silver line is just another metro line! I think since most american transit systems name lines by color, when they have a line that offers less intensive service than the others it's easy to color it grey on the map, name it the silver line, and call it a day.

Out of the three options (consistent end of label, between label and station, and consistent side of station), I think the one I chose is easiest to read at a glance when looking along a line for which stations have parking. Maybe not so much when looking at an individual station though . . .

There are some details missing — if this were to be used as an official map it will certainly need spanish translations and would benefit from showing at least the most important bus connections, a DART logo, etc., but I'm quite happy with where it stands now!

I've gone with using angles in 30-degree increments, in order to keep lines as straight as possibly while aligning with the geography of the region and maintaining a squareish aspect ratio. I also clearly differentiated regional rail and light rail lines, as they offer very different experiences.

Last week, DART announced that the new Silver Line will be opening on October 25th. To celebrate, here's my take on a map of the DART rail network once it opens.

Portland is facing dire transit service cuts and we're being told our 30 year old indoor sports arena is out of date and taxpayers must fix it.

Transit uses obsolete infrastructure every day. It would be nice to update the rail system so it can run at normal speeds on hot days, for example.
