“Rain smacked Los Angeles. It splattered on the palm trees, sizzled on the neon, gurgled down the dirty boulevard. The town was sick. They hadn’t seen sunlight in almost a day. But I had the cure. A fifth of magic and a sack full of cold, hard joy. ‘Ho,’ I said once. It was enough.”

I'm past 50 years old and I still get little kid excited to get prizes from the library for reading books. Plus, my local library goes hard with prizes.

Just got news that a wonderful lady who is well known in our neighborhood, used to own a restaurant, worked at the local Rite Aid before it closed, just got detained by ICE when legally reporting for an immigration check in. As always, Fuck ICE, but today, FUCK ICE especially for her.

Really enjoyed the author talk and signing with @mpmthewriter.bsky.social tonight for the last of the TIta Rosie's Kitchen Mysteries, Death and Dinuguan. Hosted by my local indie bookstore, Bel Canto Books in Long Beach it was a fun talk, with good Filipino BBQ, and cool people!

I ran into a neighbor yesterday whose relative likes to send every family member home from Thanksgiving dinner with their own fried turkey.

There were reasons behind it all, but the only thing I've eaten today is too many lumpia. And I'm not sorry.

I'm an avid reader, but never been a book club person until this year. My local indie bookstore does a great book club with interesting books, cool people, and great discussions. Just had the last one of the year and really glad I joined. This month's book was Shutter by Ramona Emerson.

The term "Luddite" as a pejorative synonym for "technophobe" was a technocrat PR coup; that's not what Luddites were about. They were a labour movement fighting to give workers control over technologies which were advancing w/o oversight and rapidly automating them out of their jobs. Sound familiar?

Every single woman you know has had this happen to her. Even the goddamn president of Mexico.
Brava: “If I don’t file a complaint, then what message does that send to all Mexican women?” Ms. Sheinbaum said at her daily news conference, noting sexual harassment was a crime… “If this can happen to the president, what’s going to happen to all the young women & women across our country?”

Tonight, was another reminder: there is no single mold for a Democratic winner.

Progressives won. Moderates won. Rural, suburban, urban —they all won. Black, White, Latino, AAPI — they all won. We won in the East, South, Midwest and West. Victories in races from City Council to Governor.
