It's lame how US developers will build discrete new neighborhoods like this without a little town center. I think to most people, a little hub with a coffee shop, barber shop, post office, and/or convenience store would be a real amenity.

It is basic criminology that if a punishment is to deter crime it must be relatively likely you get caught and it must happen reasonably soon after the crime is committed, traffic cameras do both. People hate them because they work lol.

Cosmopolitan, egalitarian values are better than authoritarian values and it would be cool if one of our two political parties argued as much instead of spending decades trying to avoid cultural arguments by clinging to "it's the economy stupid" or "kitchen table issues" or "affordability."

I hope the City of Long Beach will start rigorously prioritizing safety and quality of life over parking spaces and traffic flow, regardless of what a few loud voices say. 53 deaths in a year in a city of under half a million people is tragic.
Long Beach police say they’re investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Maine Avenue on Nov. 13.

I’ve seen the screenshots, but today was the first time I’ve happened upon one of these messages in real life. I feel like the kid whose parent shows up drunk to a school event and makes a scene in front of everyone. So humiliating.
