This essay, by an Egyptian-American former New Yorker staff fact-checker, is an incredible read

And incredibly damning

Huge recommendation

🧵Gaza is on the cusp of being completely destroyed.

Absent immediate action by the outside world, Gaza could soon be physically erased, its surviving people herded into camps or expelled entirely. Such an outcome would stain a generation of world leaders. 1/12

As an institution, the New York Times has failed. This excellent thread by Michael Hobbes takes apart today's NYT editorial urging democracy defenders to mind their manners as they oppose Trump.

The Kenyan speaker of parliament flew to Rome a day earlier so he could “welcome” the Kenyan president to Rome for the popes funeral. Is either one of them Italian? No. Is either one of them Catholic? Also no. Are they paying for any of this out of pocket? Take a guess.

How would you describe this picture:
I)A surreal display of historical irony
II)Privilege mistaking loss of dominance for persecution
III)Where equality feels like oppression to those used to supremacy
IV)A display of performative victimhood
V)A textbook case of gaslighting on a societal scale.

Trump “couldn’t find South Africa on a map of South Africa”. Was it Netanyahu who convinced him to punish SAfrica for bringing the genocide case against Israel? Or was it: Elon Musk, formerly of SAfrica, working out his vengeance for apartheid ending, who put him up to this?
