Part of the fun of these kinds of illustrations in context is the janky, home made feel of the graphics. Having them be “photorealistic” is boring. Let’s hope The Daily Show/John Oliver/The Onion do not follow suit.
SNL used AI art tonight, multiple times.

Booooooo.

USB DVD players for Mac/PC are also under $40.
Brand-new Sonys and Panasonics start under $60, if you’re wondering
A (quite) young movie lover said to me recently, "Not everybody can afford a DVD player," and I said "How much do you think a DVD player costs?"

He said, "I don't know, like $500?"

Those of us who advocate physical media are maybe not doing the best job of messaging.

"Marty Supreme" also contains hundreds of digital visual effects shots which is sometimes terrible for a movie (when a movie ✌️"relies"✌️ on ✌️"CGI"✌️) and sometimes it's okay, the jury is still out on that one

watched "Marty Supreme" last night, which was shot on film and really loved it until I remembered that they used long lenses and shallow depth of field for some shots and I was reminded that movies that do that are bad or something, or at least that's what the video essays keep telling me

Attempted to piece together the almost 50 years of tweaks and changes to the original Star Wars after the announcement of its return to theaters in 2027—raising the question of what really counts as "original" in the first place
The History of the Cuts of the Original 'Star Wars'
The original theatrical cut of 'Star Wars: A New Hope' is returning to theaters for its 50th anniversary. But what does 'original' actually mean?

So what do you say -- how much "restoration" do you want?
(attached video is dvd to bluray comparison, so unfair, and also boosted brightness to highlight the flaws, so double unfair -- but still, these were visible in the theatre)

I'm as thrilled as anyone to see Han shoot first and all that original magic.
But if they didn't also clean up the rough composites I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when they're reminded how pre-digital compositing looks

some say "AI is here to stay and there's nothing you can do about it so you might as well get on board" and I hear "those bank robbers robbed the bank and right now they're sitting in their house surrounded by bags of money and there's nothing you can do about it so you might as well get on board"

All of this money spent on this study and not a single mention of things that might keep people away: disruptive audience behavior, increasingly poor technical presentation, every shrinking theatrical windows (or day and date indies). I love theaters, and go multiple times a week, but it’s grim.

If this goes thru it will accelerate Hollywood’s precipitous decline. Thousands laid off. Creatives w/fewer studios willing to bid on projects. Fewer choices of what to watch for consumers. Possibly a death blow for theatrical filmgoing. Just terrible news all around
