If we’re mining early Peter Weir for musicals at least give me THE CARS THAT ATE PARIS directed by Julie Taymor.
Hey, guys, for 2026 can we try STOP TURNING THINGS INTO MUSICALS?!?!?!?!

I remember seeing this in the theater and thinking "The heck was that?"

Sheena Easton's "It's Christmas (All Over The World)" is a solid 80s holiday bop, too.

ER Doc: Patient is bleeding internally, blood pressure falling! We need to get him into surgery up STAT!

Patient, mumbling: Wait, do you have like a value plan or something? Can I opt for the disposable scalpels? And if you need to give me blood, please use Kirkland™ brand bloo....

Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

The ACA was signed into law almost 16 years ago.

16 years they've been foaming at the mouth to repeal it but still don't have a plan to replace it with.
Status update on House Republicans and a health care plan, after this morning’s conference meeting:

“The consensus is we need to come up with something,” Rep. Ralph Norman says.

Or, or, hear me out, what if you were part of the United States of America? The USA has 340,000,000 members and if one person negotiated for all 340M and they had a group plan, they would be the largest collective entity in the country. They would drive prices down by sheer might!
Rand Paul on his healthcare plan: "What if you could join Costco? Costco has 44m members and if one person negotiated for all 44 and they bought a group plan like Toyota or General Motors does, they would be the largest collective entity in the country. They would drive prices down by sheer might."

It’s both hilarious and terrifying how easily he can be played.

Nine years ago Mike Fitzgerald wrote up an extraordinarily fascinating breakdown of the differences between the Tom Stoppard shooting script and the original Jeffrey Boam draft of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.

Tom Stoppard. One of the great writers. An epic wordsmith whose craft was such that one only compares themselves to him aspirationally. ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD. SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE. BRAZIL. EMPIRE OF THE SUN. BILLY BATHGATE. ANNA KARENINA. Stage, screen, print. A genius. Rest in peace.
Goodbye to the master.

Absolutely horrifying.
Just as horrifying: I polled my students a couple years ago and almost all of them admitted to watching the movies I assigned them at 2x the speed!
Oh my god. She's 1000% right. This makes so much sense.

100% this.

I've had several specs in that frantic producers!/territories!/studios! 3-day whirlwind where it's all so exciting and a sale feels inevitable and then.... nothing.

And I'm disappointed and frustrated. But then another idea gets its grubby little hands on me and I start anew.
But do you know what I’m doing today? I’m writing my spec.

Failure is 98% of this business. And it can break you. I was pretty disappointed after having such a strong first day of the spec but this one just didn’t work out.

We did this musical my senior year in high school. I was Joe/Josephine/Jr.

Not only so much fun, but it introduced me to the great Billy Wilder.

Let's break this stupidity down.

You're shopping for shampoo. Do you want moisturizing? Dandruff control? 2-in-1? Are you willing to pay 50c more for MCI free or guava extract?

Great. Good job. You did your research, decided what shampoo features were important to you, and bought a bottle...
Cassidy: "If she goes and gets 2 types of shampoo & one is a dollar cheaper, she'll get the cheaper one & the other lowers their price. Once you give her the power of making the decision, she's gonna shop -- that begins to save her money and squeezes waste out of the healthcare system."

Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

This seems to be their new angle: Obamacare enriches the insurance companies! We should give money directly to Americans!

What can those Americans do with that money? If they want health coverage, they'll buy health insurance from a health insurance company.

They're so unserious about healthcare.

I'm going to commit this argument to memory. IDs are for identifying people RIGHT NOW.
And why exactly is the sex at birth, as opposed to their sex now, at all relevant to identifying, say, a fifty year old woman on DOCUMENTS THAT IDENTIFY HER.

I had blue eyes at birth. You know what my driver’s license says? Hazel. Because they changed, and one is useless for identifying me.

"the most productive of all time" says the Congress that just set the record for the longest shutdown in history....

And the title of the only major legislation they've passed actually calls out that it's just "One Big Bill". Just one.
Johnson: When we go into the midterms, we’re very bullish on the outcome. We have an extraordinary record to run on. The first nine months of this Congress and this administration, arguably the most productive of all time.
