What’s haunted me since I saw this is a detail only a Catholic theologian would care about, but I want to explain it:

By lying, Vance does profound violence to himself. What he says is not only untrue, but also goes against the divine light of reason that illumines his whole consciousness.

NATO is a voluntary, mutually beneficial alliance, not a protection racket or extortion scheme.

If it’s forfeit land as tribute or no NATO, that effectively means no NATO.

The threat itself, even if not acted upon, undermines the trust and credibility that makes the alliance function.

There have been nine ICE shootings. There will be more. I think it may be time to consider these actions in the historical context of the Central American death squads supported by previous iterations of U.S. imperialism. And ICE's hostile incursion into "blue" cities as a form of imperialism, too.

My real question is after losing their healthcare, paying $25 bucks for eggs, paying more in tarrifs and watching trillionaires and oil companies thrive from pure, object grift, will white Americans still let racism keep them from happiness or is it worth it as long as y'all have someone to hate?

Hello Walter Benjamin! It’s not great that we can apply first gen critical theory from the 1930s to our current government.
Trump to Fox & Friends on the raid that captured Maduro: "I mean, I watched it literally l like I was watching a television show. If you would've seen the speed, the violence -- it was an amazing thing."

There’s no pitch for genAI in the classroom that doesn’t boil down to “it’s everywhere,” or that takes education as more than job training, or, consequently, that actually argues for genAI as a tool that has a distinct function in education.

It’s not educators who have their heads in the sand here.

As Hannah Arendt put it: "The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists." Undermining that distinction will be a lasting legacy of generative AI.

Ok, I don't usually do this, but the Molly Worthen piece on Christian Nationalism in the NYT? Apologetics.
I'm on Xmas break and I don't feel like wasting my time breaking this down but let me just say this: WHO IS WE? Because some of us get Christian Nationalism, the NAR, and Dominionism.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, and we know that's the case."

This is a flat-out 100% lie from @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and he knows it. Impeachment resolutions are privileged, they can force a vote at any time.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.
