79 authors have withdrawn from Adelaide Writers Week now, that we know of - others are rumoured to have done so without declaring so publicly, if you’re wondering why different numbers are floating around. More than half of the festival gone. sakr.substack.com/p/the-road-t...

Israel is murdering Palestinian children again, as they do every single day.

There is no ceasefire, just brutal apartheid and genocide.

Take Action.

I hope we're all learning lessons about the politics of enforcing cultural sensitivity now that it's being weaponised against the left and people who say 'genocide is actually bad'. Free speech matters people, even when it's uncomfortable <insert the ghost of Voltaire etc>. Contestation is human

One of the things the creative industry in Australia is really bad at is doing stuff for themselves. Mostly because our entire arts system has historically been based on establishment figures salving their social reputations through donations, and getting dipshits to run it... But!... (1/n)

One of the regular complaints about rooftop solar subsidy schemes is that it only assists those who can afford to invest in rooftop solar - but as this is demonstrating, those subsidies protect the grid for those who can't afford the investment. Rooftop solar has benefit of the commons effects.

I need a mood booster, let's talk about capybaras.

Here's a capy demonstrating one of MANY ways they can move through the water: running along the bottom.

They're 'semi-aquatic' mammals, just like hippos, seals & beavers. They LOVE water.

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

A sad day today with the loss of one of Australia’s iconic LGBTQIA+ businesses. This little shop was instrumental to my coming out and growing into my queer identity. Gay bookstores are more than shops, they are community hubs. A real loss.

The Bookshop Darlinghurst has stood firm through the decades as laws and attitudes towards LGBTQI people have changed dramatically. Today it shuts its doors for good

Adobe subscription traps are evil but if this is accurate it is very funny.
This is perfect. The DOJ's embarrassing snafu with disappearing redactions was the fault of Elon Musk. Musk cancelled government subscriptions to Adobe programs that would have made the redactions permanent. What a pack of fools.

AI policy is stuck on productivity – and democracy is paying the price
Artificial intelligence is increasingly framed in terms of efficiency and growth. But that framing sidelines harder questions about power, choice and democratic governance.
