Rolling into the weekend it is time for the #SundayFishSketch #Fishytheme. Continuing our @lizlagomorph.bsky.social #SciartSeptember themes, 'Reef' is the prompt for this Sunday! There are thousands of reef fishes to choose from, and I can't wait to see all the colorful illustrations! #Sciart 🦑

#SundayFishSketch sorry for my long absence. No fishy puzzles recently. This one is a donation for the upcoming North American Sturgeon and Paddlefish conference. My best attempt at a shovelnose sturgeon. A gift from @amfisheriessoc.bsky.social

For the boreal theme of #sciartseptember and #SundayFishSketch, a burbot! This freshwater cod species is found from the #GreatLakes and Midwest north to the boreal regions.
Ink and watercolor sketch of a brown fish with a single barbel. It's delicious!

I'm half joking here but at some point all cyprinids* look the same 😆 Here's Alburnus alburnus — the bleak / salakka / löja / laue / løje — for #SundayFishSketch x #SciArtSeptember #Boreal theme. 🐡🦑🧪 Day 7/30

For “boreal” I picked the brook trout, which is a throwback to my freshman year of undergrad when we did labs on headwater streams. Tree cover keeps stream temps in the preferred range for these guys #SundayFishSketch #SciArtSeptember

Finally finished those two 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Cleaner wrasses can change frome female to male, and fairy wrasses are just swimming rainbows.
watercolour painting of a cleaner wrasse and a fairy wrasse on white background.
The cleaner wrasse has its head under the head of the fairy wrasse. They both are pointing toward each other.
The cleaner wrasse is white/blue-ish with a long black horizontal stripe. The fairy wrasse is much bigger and has all the colours of the rainbow, starting with a reddish pink at the head followed by yellow, green and ending in purple blue at the fin.

An arctic char for the #SciArtSeptember Borealis theme and a late #SundayFishSketch. I tried an experiment where I painted with only two colors.
A watercolor painting of an Arctic Char fish facing to the left of the page in orange and blue. The orange is mostly on the top and the blue is mostly on the bottom.

Haven’t kept up with #sciartseptember very well. Here’s a plains minnow for the #vanishing prompt from earlier in the week. Once, one of the most common minnows in the sandy drainages of the Kansas and Arkansas rivers, flow regime changes greatly reduced their numbers #sundayfishsketch

For mimic, the false cleanerfish who pretends to be cute and innocent and “ohhh here I’ll just clean you” and then CHOMP with those wicked fangs #SciArtSeptember #SundayFishSketch
Colored pencil drawing of the false cleaner fish. The side view shows a slender fish that is yellow graduating into blue with a black stripe down the middle. The front few shows the absolute chompers on this little bad boy, which are used for causing problems.

For the Mimic theme of #sciartseptember and #SundayFishSketch, it's the mimic shiner! Probably because it looks like other shiners. Thanks shiners... #GreatLakes

A few modifications to the screenshot I posted, but here's the initial fish cranial kinesis model's movement.

Fish people: I'm having a hard time getting the premaxilla to "slide" forward. How important is that? (I will keep trying tho.)
