Every Republican president since I have been able to vote has started at least one foreign war to benefit the oil company barons. It’s like clockwork. And anyone who votes for them thinking that they won’t is fooling themselves.

Lots going on but don’t lose track of the Trump attacks on biomedical research and cancer cures.

@jeremymberg.bsky.social posted a leaked #NIH memo today. I want to highlight a few scary parts.

They’re about taking power from scientists and experts and giving it to the president’s hacks. 1/ 🧪

The Atlantic speaks with one of the jurors in the case of the man who threw a Subway sandwich at a federal agent.

The juror says that, despite two initial holdouts, it was ultimately pretty easy to acquit: "a clear majority felt it was nonsensical, like, don't waste our time or money."

NIH institute directors have always been non-political. They are science administrators who have always been top-tier scientists themselves.

This has been true during Dem and GOP administrations. Smart presidents understand: don't fuck with success.

And now we have Donald Trump.
A bad thing is unfolding at NIH this week: It looks like the Trump administration is trying to replace key civil servant scientific leaders, the Institute Directors, with political hires. These directors control the NIH budget, tens of billions.

If we are going to have judges recuse themselves for the comments of their wives - imagine there will be number of cases involving Thomas and Alito if it pertains to Trump or right wing advocacy issues, in which they should have to do the same.

No?
BREAKING: At Trump DOJ request, Judge Michael Simon (Obama) recuses from Oregon's suit over activation of its National Guard for immigration enforcement/ICE security. New Judge Karin Immergut (Trump). DOJ argued comments by Simon's wife @RepBonamici about case merited recusal.

This is the HUD home page right now. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a clearer violation of the Hatch Act. When is Congress going to wake up.

What we might refer to as a "Kavanaugh Stop"
WOW. The lead plaintiff is a Latino man who's been here legally for 24 years. He was grabbed off the street by plainclothes federal agents who didn't even ASK about his status.

He was detained overnight and only released once a supervisor realized he had been illegally arrested.

You only bring a case this bad to use the power of the state to punish someone for non-legal reasons. Every prosecutor who works on this case should be disbarred.
New on MSNBC: According to the court transcript, only 14 of the 23 grand jurors voted in favor of indicting James Comey on the two counts that went forward.

In a world where I'm President with supermajorities in Congress in 2029 what I do is:

1. Skip the 2029 SCOTUS term to put reforms in

2. Expand the Court to 13 justices (matching the Circuits)

3. Require justices to actually ride Circuit, hopefully this forces retirement of one's like Thomas (1/2)
Yeah. If Dems don't immediately go all-in on Supreme Court reform the second they regain power, this country won't survive.

I again float my idea of peaceful dissolution into 4 smaller regional countries.
The current Supreme Court has unilaterally rearchitected our entire system of Government, and done so to favor despotism

Check out Justice Eddins’ complete repudiation of the Roberts Court here. It’s worth reading in full. It’s quite brave—and exceedingly rare—for a sitting judge to speak so candidly and scathingly about SCOTUS’ partisan contortions of law, history, and fact.

Soooo, to state the obvious …. a “Court” that says that it’s okay to consider race for bad things (stop and frisks, arrests, etc.) but that it’s not okay to consider race for good things (college admissions, voting rights, etc.) isn’t really doing law. The republican justices are MAGA in robes.

Earlier today, there was one at a higher altitude

Good to see a bipartisan group of former CDC Directors raise alarms in the NY Times about RFK Jr. dismantling US public health.

And I can’t help but feel frustrated that they didn’t do this last year when public health was on the ballot—nor did NYT frame it that way—when we had a chance to stop it.
