Smoking has never not looked cool. That’s why it was so hard to convince us not to smoke in the 90’s. It could not be ignored that it made you look rad.

My money is on Pope Leo in this particular match up.
In newly leaked audio, Peter Thiel admits he urged JD Vance to ignore Pope Leo XIV on moral questions — including the ethical development of AI.

He goes even further, branding Leo “the woke American pope” and suggesting he’s a tool of the Antichrist.

In a leaked lecture, Peter Thiel says he’s urged Vance to ignore the pope on moral questions — and simply pray for him.

This is pretty funny, wildly sleazy, and deeply stupid.

Ellison lost Taylor Sheridan and gained Brett Ratner.

Trump is losing altitude and who knows where he will be by the time this film limps into theaters (or quietly hits streaming.)
I teased this last night in What I’m Hearing but now confirmed: Paramount WILL release Rush Hour 4 after prodding from Trump on behalf of Brett Ratner. Distribution deal. Producer Tarak Ben Ammar is lining up financing. Get ready for the dumbest possible state-controlled media.

I can’t abide by people that claim to love movies saying they are totally disinterested in, or dismissive of, the Avatar films.

They are incredible achievements of the craft.
Anyway, this convo between James Cameron and @mattbelloni.bsky.social is great.

Dress up for your flight. Don’t buy Grandma slippers for Christmas. Move your family to save money. The labor market is just having some quiet time.

Everything is cool. Everything is fine.

I’m on the Jay Kelly train after watching a gorgeous 35mm print at @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social.

It ain’t playing in many theaters, but it is playing here in Chicago. It’s a wonderful picture made all the better by being seen in the theater.

I put this Olivia Nuzzi/Ryan Lizza/RFK Jr. business in the same basket as Elon, crypto, AI, the tech bros, and the political industrial complex.

Too many people, with far too much money, that all think they are the main characters of the universe.

Incredible airtight logic here. The AI companies are spending incredible amounts of money to buy chips from one supplier, so all is well.

For my money, Sonny is the best culture/film critic working today, and this is one of his best pieces.
