I've done a lot of research into Denon's current line of AV receivers. I've written down everything that I know.

Also this is me soft-launching my Buyer's Guide. It's very much a work in progress but may as well be public.

Every single day at ~11pm I type “good night”. Every single day my phone suggests “morning” and “luck”. Why is it so bad?

Hmm this isn’t ideal 🔌💸

XLR cable buzzing when phantom power applied. Cut the ends off, desoldered the connectors, re-stripped, re-soldered, and it works again 💪🎙️

This turned out to not be in as good condition as I expected. It’s also got a 5-pin XLR port which is a pain (the extra 2 pins control the “on air” LED).
Bought a RØDE Broadcaster on eBay 🎙️Now just need the @elgato.com Mic Arm Pro to be on sale again. My desk setup is (very slowly) coming together.

If you’re not using AI for everything, it’s ok, don’t worry, you’re not being left behind. 😌 Most of the AI hype I see on Twitter is just that: hype.

I’d say in its current form, AI is mildly useful for moderately simple tasks.

As a bisexual software developer in his 30s should I finally accept my fate and go bouldering? 🧗‍♂️

Top tip, if you’re cycling on a narrow-ish road that has a pained cycle lane, ignore it completely. Cycle in the middle of the lane. Painted lines do more harm than good here. It makes drivers think they can pass you without leaving *any* space, as long as they don’t cross the line.

I’ve always tried to stay to the left when cycling to make it easier for drivers to overtake, but too many of them close pass. So now I cycle firmly in the middle of the lane. 🚴🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

My flat contains:
• 17 smart bulbs
• 19 regular bulbs

14 of the smart bulbs are IKEA. I think they’re now an obvious choice over Hue: much, much cheaper and the published CRI tends to be higher.

The standard of YouTube ads has become so low that I automatically assume anything being advertised is either a terrible product or an outright scam

My take on yellow boxes (and their associated fines) is that they should extend to cover pedestrian crossings too. I know it’s technically already illegal to block a crossing but it doesn’t stop drivers doing it and there are seemingly no consequences.

My new rule for scrolling the Twitter “For you” tab is I’m allowed to do it until I see a racist tweet, then I have to exit the app. I usually don’t get very far.
