Random Canadian. I think I'm funny.

Arctic, film, Cascadia, random rabbit holes, occasional pretend philosophy.

As the former Governor of Minnesota once said, "Turnabout is fair play, McMahon!"

What happens when the checks and balances don't check or balance?

“My dear fellow, who will let you?”

“That’s not the point. The point is, who will stop me?”

Absolutely not. It's a Weeping Angel.

"Democracy Dies in Darkness" is kinda like "Don't Be Evil" as a slogan. It's a bit worrying when you choose it, but it's a lot more worrying when you take it down

Does he think Denmark is dumping Greenland's contract for cap space?
In this one Trump nominates ambassador to Denmark and also demands Denmark throw in Greenland as a sweetener.
December 23, 2024 at 5:13 AM
Hmm. What do Canada, Denmark, and Panama have in common and why is it passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific?
Donald Trump says it is an “absolute necessity” for the United States to annex Greenland.

“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.”

Dry?! Try living it!
Public administration can be a bit dry, but Kathryn does an exceptional job connecting the theory of public admin to the practice, and to the policy implications.

I have a joke about cabinet confidences, but you won't get it for 20 years.

Lies, damn lies, statistics, and AI-generated facts.
Tried to look this up for Canada and Google’s AI gave me a horribly incorrect answer.

It mistook a tiny village in Newfoundland for the entire country and said 17.6% of Canadians over the age of 15 were never married.

The actual percentage (which I looked up directly from census results) is 29.1%

Would love to see a Canadian pollster do something similar.
Americans have a weird cognitive bias.

People make incorrect estimates about the population. Crazy incorrect. For instance, they think 21% of the country is trans, 40% is black, and 30% lives in NYC. . . . 1/7

Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Vizzini: Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own cup, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the cup in front of you
