What stands out to me about this report is the clear lack of support, mentorship and leadership from design managers.. seems like something worthy of it's own deep-dive

This is one of the worst, most horrifying exposures we have ever seen. It is hard to overstate how bad the things that people are using tools like for are, and it's insane to pretend like these tools are anything other than nonconsensual porn machines

It's so exhausting to deal with layoffs and unemployment during a time when companies and their leadership so obviously have no idea what they're doing

The content is still obviously delusional to anyone reading it. It’s just organised crazy. But the real danger is the internal effect on the user. The AI provides coherence and validation, stabilising the narrative they’re caught in.

LLMs give people with delusional belief systems a way to organise those beliefs. The model fills in gaps, supplies connective tissue, and wraps the madness in formal language.
It doesn't make the claims more credible to us, it just tidies them up.

Really enjoyed this post by @gerireid.com

It felt accurate for what I've experienced from designers coming to me with specs written by AI.

Designers may learn what they should include, but the specs tend to lack the contextual awareness or accuracy required.

Can AI write accessibility specs?
I wrote a prompt to help me write accessibility specs for components. Then had an existential crisis.

Keep thinking about how the HR person and my manager smiled at me after delivering the news that I was being made redundant

And just as I was literally getting ready to take my first "real" vacation in years

Ten or twenty years ago, if an executive came out and said "actually our products can't be trusted" the stock would take a nosedive rather than go up.
The casual way this techbro talks about the "error-prone" products they are throwing out into the world, the necessity for the consumer to accept, train for, and correct for these, and the impending economic chaos wrought by the frenzy they are creating as though it's normal and natural: holy hell.

Fascinating watching Cloudflare go down this morning, taking half of the internet with it. People have no idea how fragile and vulnerable the world's IT nervous system really is.

So if the goal is photo realistic, why not use, well, photos? Why burn 2 acres of the Amazon to produce something that you claim will be indistinguishable from a photo?

anyway all the rich assholes hang out — and none of them understand their own businesses or the economy either. none of them know how to sell things to people any more, only scams to investors and blinkers to shareholders.

that’s it, that’s the secret.
I don’t want to seem out of touch but I don’t actually understand the economy anymore.

I've been thinking about this all day, because so much of my career has been spent being not truly "one of us," and I'm only beginning to come to some kind of terms with how painful it has been.
If you're always an inspector at the end/external to/outside of the "core group" you're seen as not truly belonging, not truly "one of us," especially in organizations that are doing a bad job of protecting their dissenters and divergent thinkers (many tech orgs, ofc)

Security, privacy, accessibility, UX, anything that an org sees as being bolted on at the end hits this problem.

Question for peeps who hire designers: if you have conceptual designs for a project that weren't implemented but you think are more compelling, should you lead with that or what is implemented

Example: Designing the introductory thumbnail for a project
