This is the way to view the German election.
So much of the US coverage of the German elections is cast in a "sky is falling" AfD rising apocalypse frame. I get it. The AfD is going to 2x its vote and get around 20%. But another way to look at this is that the AfD blew it. The conditions couldn't be better for the AfD to surge and yet. 1/ 🧵

Far as I can tell Basma Assad still has her British passport. Whatever we might think of Shemima Begum, it’s hard to argue that Assad has a stronger right to being British than her.
