Sometimes I just don’t get it! 🫣

Omg! So many people in line at 6.30pm just to get in! #omg

Fair point. Wasn’t trying to put anyone off voting, we do need a lot more people to vote, as you said it’s dangerously low.

Sometimes I’m still just so surprised how the car plays such a big role. I can’t imagine anyone back home driving to a voting booth.

You’re right though, pragmatism matters.

Drive through voting 🗳️ 😂
I don’t support car culture, but if it gets people voting….🤷‍♀️

My colleague; 😲

Me: what?

She; didn’t you hear the Emerson whistle? It’s time for beer 🍻 😂

And yep, Ōtepoti Dunedin has a train whistle that goes off every Thursday when they announce a new beer. No matter where you are in the city, you will hear it 😂 and who doesn’t love free tasters & nibbles.

In a similar vein- Dunedin vote drop-off locations can be found at www.dunedin.govt.nz/council/elec...

And absolutely don't look at that scurrilous "Baxter's Leftie Dunedin Voters Guide". And in no circumstances SHARE it with others who'd find it helpful to sort through the candidates!

“When streets became calmer & safer, more people felt comfortable trying a bike commute for the first time. Families began pedaling to the park…Local businesses saw new life…And cycling stopped feeling like a niche activity—it became part of everyday Parisian life.”

🚛 The Netherlands is seeing a major shift in urban freight thanks to zero-emission zones for freight in 18 of its cities.

By early 2025, 78% of new vans were electric -- compared to just 9% across the EU.

Great post by Kieran Lee.

“A small walk [from a car park] never hurt anyone. It’s not exactly life or death - unless you’re the one on the bike.”

Shopping nights was a thing. Let’s bring it back! 🛍️
Not just cities - I grew up in Northland and our nearest town (Kaikohe) had late night shopping until 8 on Fridays. Of course, shops barely opened in the weekend at all - the weekend opening made late night shopping less important.

Haha broken your current one already? Or just a backup? 😂

Great session and very interesting from a communications point of view and how essential comms is.

Also great @johnjcampbell.bsky.social impersonation by Grant 😂

Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Summery day and I need to work. Where did I go wrong? 😋

But looking forward to tonight’s event: a lecture about populism and misinformation.

Will be an interesting one with Grant Robertson and a leading science advisor from John Hopkins during the Biden administration.

Check out Pīrangi, a new 88 home development under construction in Point England as part of the Tāmaki Regeneration programme.

It is a mix of apartments and terraced houses, ranging from 2 to 5 bedrooms, which will be social & shared ownership housing.

Candidates in local govt elections face very little scrutiny.
I'm grateful to @misswhanau.bsky.social for calling out the abuse and raising awareness.
This 🧵 on why it matters (incl extra red flags for Nat party aligned candidates courting cookers)

Get your local election votes in by noon on Saturday! Why? To ensure a great future for your city, of course. And also, to help make politics civil again. We owe it to each other to lift the standard of discourse, keep it evidence-based, and avoid falling for conspiracy and abuse. Here’s the thing🧵

…in most cases, candidates flirting with extreme views in pursuit of votes is NOT funny. For example, some ostensibly ‘centre right’ candidates from C&R are engaging with (and thus legitimising) conspiracy groups like Rock the Vote NZ…
Jack Tan, current C&R local board member for Albert Eden, commenting in thanks of support from Rock The Vote and agreeing with them saying 'Quite Right, let's apply common sense to the mix'.

Jack Tan likes many of Rock The Votes posts on Facebook.
