Long term experiments are, sadly, all too rare today. It is a thrill that the great Beal seed experiment is still going forward after 144 years. With the addition of molecular biology, it is more important than ever.

From my plantselling days: the absolute worst people are those who shove others out of the way to get to a plant display and then loudly sneer “I can’t keep plants alive! Every plant I get dies!” Do you do that in pet shops? Worse, do you do that in maternity wards and nursing homes? (Probably.)
