Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today.

Four giants control 80% of meat processing.

A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry.

The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

It means more power for them and less freedom for you.
In 1983, 50 companies controlled 90% of the U.S. media market. That number is now down to 5.

A public media organization in a university town just a few hours northwest of Philadelphia is set to be the first in the country to go dark after the Trump administration stripped away federal funding for NPR and PBS.

Kimmel's suspension shows the levels to which the Trump administration is trying to make a “Reichstag fire” moment out of Kirk’s assassination — exploiting the fears of a traumatized public to use government power to silence political dissent.

It's a response to our reporting on DHS talks w/Pentagon on this. Details in my new piece:

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act. The beginning of true democracy in America. A offering to this country paid for by the work, dedication and lives of ordinary Black people.

We’ve always had to fight. Are you prepared to fight to protect our rights?

We should have the House right now. Let me say it again: we should have the House.

This ain’t just a Texas problem, it’s a national problem. They’re stealing seats to keep power, and that’s how we ended up with Speaker Johnson instead of Speaker Jeffries.

They can’t win fair, so they cheat.

Thank you, Texas Dems, for standing up for democracy.

Playing fair has gotten Democrats nowhere against an administration that keeps rewriting the rules to stay in power and ignores the very people who elected them.

ICE recruiting is clearly not going well despite $50,000 signing bonuses and promises of student debt relief. To speed things along, ICE is moving people over from FEMA to "assist with... vetting." I think it should read "push anyone with a modicum of interest into the field ASAP"

60 years ago today, the Voting Rights Act became law.

Now, we have an administration conducting voter suppression in real time. In Texas, Republicans are trying to gut our democracy by redrawing maps to erase 5 Democratic seats—before a single vote is cast.

The sports thing is the only anti-trans thing that polls well, so they're going to force through every heinous rollback of our rights under the sports banner.

All because people refused to believe the science.
The Trump administration effectively created a de facto bathroom ban at Brown University and none of the major media is covering it, and if they do, they character it as about sports. This is how the trans visa ban was enacted and characterized.

Watching on tv. Not impressed.
I was in Vinegar Hill today for lunch and was amazed to see that Eric Adams had turned watching the fireworks on public streets into a ticketed event. It was chaotic and people like me who were just walking through the area couldn't get on many streets.
People with tickets for #Macysfireworks in Brooklyn stood in a line that was 11 blocks long and told after an hour that no one was getting in because it was already full. The cops had no idea what was going on. One said “ask the mayor.” They had closed the park long before but never told anyone.
