I wrote from my soul self: frustration, pain, & hope for a better world in which the horrors against Black women of today won't continue to tomorrow

@ISSTD always has been a haven of humanity

This recognition is perhaps the greatest of not just my career but my life

Thank You
Two pictures from the 2024 ISSTD Awards Ceremony where I won the Frank W Putnam award for outstanding book for The Cultural Betrayal of Black Women & Girls: A Black Feminist Approach to Healing from Sexual Abuse

After I was denied entry to an ICE facility in my district, many of you said social media posts weren’t enough. You’re right.

Judge Young says he has concerns about discrimination against race, sexual orientation, and potentially women in this case. He asks if the plaintiffs will bring this up.

Plaintiffs say the Public Health Service Act dictates that advancing the health of minorities and women is mandated by Congress.

Oh man, what a self-own. A govt lawyer brought up DEI in passing, Judge Young was Not Happy:

"If putting these words together, DEI, is somehow offensive... does that mean our policy is homogeneity, inequity, and exclusion?

Are you going to stand there and tell me that's now the policy of the NIH?"

A US judge to govt lawyers defending the NIH's grant terminations:

"I understand the administration is against DEI. Respectfully, I just don't know what you mean. This isn't a teasing question. There has to be some working definition.

This is research to advance healthcare for all our citizens."

All I Did Was Look Up is my original watercolor I painted to depict the expansive night sky, trees and stars and northern lights. Always magical. Never boring. It makes me feel connected.

BREAKING: In a unanimous decision, a federal court of appeals has ruled that Louisiana's law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in all public school classrooms is unconstitutional.

We’ll keep saying it: Public schools are not Sunday schools.

I asked ICE where the “413% increase in assaults” justification for its officers using masks came from. They didn’t answer. So I dug into it, and what I found … did not boost their argument.

Opinion | Parsing ICE’s mixed-up, hard-to-believe assault claims
ICE officials keep touting a 413 percent increase in assaults on officers to justify officers masking their identities.

Juneteenth calls us to understand the realities of our past, celebrate the resilience and achievements of Black Americans, and align the course of our country toward its founding creed of liberty and justice for all. Wishing everyone a meaningful Juneteenth!
