If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

I'm not exactly well-grounded in 20th century Chinese history, but I admit that in idle moments my mind has been returning to the opening scene/chapters of The Three-Body Problem these past few weeks.
My friend and mentor Orville Schell puts very clearly what many people with experience in 20th century China are thinking:

The parallels with the nihilism and chaos-for-its-own-sake of the Cultural Revolution years.

"They came along to answer questions no one asked, such as, How, to the greatest extent possible, can I avoid interacting with people in person? And, Is there any way for me to express myself to the public in purely disembodied forms?"
Thiel thinks he’s a bigtime intellectual, Musk thinks he’s a polymath, Zuck and Bezos are smarter and less fanatical, but physically insecure and desperate to fit in. Eccentrics! In the final analysis, though, they’re all steering us in the same horrible direction. www.offmessage.net/p/do-not-wel...

I don't make resolutions, ever since I discovered the two perfect ones years ago:

1. Become a more terrifying version of yourself.

2. Do what you already do, but more so.

not sure how the election is gonna end up, doesn't seem to be looking good, but regardless, whether harris squeaks by or trump wins again outright, one thing is clear: a huge portion of this country is absolutely fucking depraved.

As @jvl.bsky.social pointed out, Harris ran a smart campaign. She was a solid candidate. Trump ran a disastrous campaign and is in clear decline. This was a clear choice. No matter who wins, half of voters either chose bigotry and authoritarianism, or had no problem with it. And that’s hard to take.
