The most important thing is not to fall for people hand waving about how AI will definitely help to fix climate change so we should develop it as fast as possible. Honestly, nobody knows. It could help a lot. It could also hinder solutions.

Today on Volts: hey listen up! The most important election of the year is happening in Georgia next month. Two seats on the (currently all-GOP) Public Service Commission are up & rising electricity prices are on everyone's mind. This is a bellwether for next year's governor & midterm elections!
Pay attention to the most important political race of 2025
With energy affordability set to dominate national politics, Peter Hubbard and Brionté McCorkle explain why a down-ballot Georgia race is ground zero for the fight.

We have rooftop solar and house scale batteries. They power the house and charge our two cars (EV and plug-in hybrid). On an annual basis, we are a “net exporter” of power. Here in California the utilities have to buy our surplus. We get free electricity, plus a check from PG&E each year.

plus if you have a short commute, work from home, or take public transport most days maybe don't even bother with any fancy charging stuff - plugging the car into a regular outlet over a night or two will give more range than you need

It's still cheaper per mile than gasoline, and if you charge off of your home solar array or during off peak times, it's much cheaper.

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

and these are just fuel costs. I just switched from a gas car to a Mustang Mach-E a few months ago and I’m betting I’ll save hundreds if not $1k per year on maintenance, oil changes, etc.

we charge our hyundai ioniq 5 around once every two to three weeks at a muncipal charger and i’d say it runs about $9 for 250 miles of range.

So, earlier today, NBC reported that Google had “banned” two well known websites from its ad platform, namely The Federalist and Zero Hedge. The story was a bit confusing. To be clear, …

The other point, of course, is that if the National Academy HAD done a review, they would have blistered Koonin's DOE report as a piece of garbage. That's why the Trump government didn't ask the National Academy to do a review.

US political violence is very much a right-wing phenomenon. Multiple studies bear this out.

The Jasko, et al. study below is particularly impressive. But even the Cato Institute agrees that it's mostly right-wing.
