I didn't know it when I made this post, but the announcement of Bob Burns' death came at the same time.

Actor, consultant, producer, archivist, and historian of props Bob Burns III was 90 years old.

He appeared in many documentaries, as he preserved part of the cultural heritage of sci-fi. 🙏

RIP to Bob Burns, one of the greatest champions of science fiction, horror and fantasy that the world will ever have. A historian, an archivist and performer - Bob dedicated his life to cinema. I only met him once at a convention, and we spent twenty minutes chatting about Harryhausen movies.

Today is Tom Spurgeon's birthday. Read some Little Orphan Annie or Cul de Sac, write a friend you miss, call your mom, gossip about comics with friends, get a group together for dinner, give a book you love a review, see a play, talk for hours with someone who means the world to you. Remember Tom.

Zootopia 2 is the highest grossing Hollywood movie of the year & Kpop Demon Hunters was Netflix's most popular movie of all time, but fuck animators, am I right? I hate reading about how huge & beloved this stuff is while knowing how hard creators have it & how it still isn't broadly taken seriously

For 80s film kids, Rob Reiner was one of our directors. It was him, Lucas, Spielberg, Dante, Columbus, Hughes, these directors who danced between drama, humor and thrills, but even among them Reiner was different. Funny, yes, but always with this underpinning of compassion.

We say goodbye to actor, filmmaker and activist Rob Reiner.

A dedicated storyteller with sincerity that imbued his prolific work and the causes he believed in, Reiner’s heartfelt portrayal of the human condition reminds us of the power of film and its abilities to stay with us.

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

Huh. Ian Kennedy Martin wrote Mitchell. He basically cut-n-pasted the "Buzz off, kid!" scene from a script he wrote for The Sweeney. Having seen the #MST3K version of Mitchell a million times, seeing this scene in a British context with two different actors feels like a fever dream.
