Measles cases are on the rise in several parts of the country. If you have a young child who is not yet fully immunized, know who else will be visiting and ask about vax status. Unfortunately, measles can stay viable in the air for 2 hours after an infected person has been there!

In the US, RSV is the leading cause of infant hospitalizations so as we head into respiratory viral season, please wash your hands, cover your cough, wear a mask (even if you think “it’s allergies”), and get vaccinated.
National surveillance is currently unavailable. Thanks, Trump.

That a US president would willfully withhold SNAP funding while building the world tackiest ballroom is America’s “let them eat cake“ moment

Probably not necessary to say this on this particular forum but: The Democrats are NOT “holding out for healthcare for illegal immigrants” but some other people may be playing chicken in a sad game of the Epstein Files v Hungry Children.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I do not understand local governments giving tax breaks to businesses that then pay their employees so little they qualify for public assistance. Who thinks the “let’s take in less money so we have to give out more money” model is smart business??

I am sure “fecal filtrate” and “donor stool” are ideas that immediately induce an ICK response but dying of a diarrheal illness like c. diff is awful and FMT works!
Fecal filtrate is less effective than donor stool (FMT) for the treatment of C. difficile recurrence. Now shown in a multicentre trial, out today in @lancetgastrohep.bsky.social .

Congratulations to Dina Kao @ualberta.bsky.social & team!

- Scale up operations
- Interrupt transmission chains

If you read 1 thing today, please make it this: my so-talented colleague @ericboodman.bsky.social explains why babies in the US are vaccinated at birth against hep B — and what the human costs of changing that policy would be. www.statnews.com/2025/09/11/n...
Dropping hepatitis B shots for newborns would ignore history and endanger children, scientists warn
People who study, treat, or have hepatitis B say ending routine vaccination at birth - as some vaccine critics want - could lead to a resurgence of the virus.

A remote area of the DRC has been hit with another outbreak of Ebola. Unfortunately, most viral hemorrhagic fevers start with very common symptoms of fever, body aches, nausea. That puts healthcare workers and others at risk.
ALL patients with fever are potentially contagious; act accordingly.

We should be protective of what we take in, in every way. What we inhale, eat, drink, and consume from every source. Aerosol scientists - like the brilliant Linsey Marr - are helping us all understand the particles, pollution, and pathogens we encounter in the air.
We have policies/laws/regulations to ensure that our food and water are clean and safe. Why not for air, too?

Typical amounts taken in per day:
food = 4 lb
water = 3 lb
air = 30 lb

I am so grateful none of our CDC colleagues were physically injured in the shooting yesterday. I am so sorry a police officer lost his life. We need a better mental health and crisis intervention system and to stop demonizing science, public health, and vaccines. 💔

Infectious and environmental diseases don’t always make the news unless it’s something scary like Ebola. But we need information and sadly, regulation, in order to keep people safer. Warmer, dirtier air and water will increase illnesses and deaths and make our communities less safe. 💔🫁🦠
