Anyway, I'm not sure I'm wording this well, and I may delete. But as a non-Christian, I've had people shout "prayers" at me that involved telling me to repent & find salvation more than once. And even when there wasn't other aggressive content, I certainly felt threatened. So it's messy for me.

Again, the ICE agents who fired on this man were scum. But when we frame shouting at people about repentance & salvation as the most harmless thing a man can do, we kind of can only get that logic if we concede that everybody really should be Christian & accept Christianity as the standard of good.

It is undeniably wrong to fire ANY kind of weapon at a man for praying it you. We can all condemn that. But framing it as a "religious freedom" issue drifts into dicey territory. In this case, it was protest, and it was free speech. But what if he gave the same speech outside an abortion clinic?

Those agents were obviously scum & just itching to do violence. But I want to say something else about this.

Proselytizing like this is not neutral behavior, & can be deeply offensive to non-Christians. It shouldn't EVER get you assaulted, but I'm uncomfortable when we frame it as pure & harmless.
