Here I show 3 projections to 2100.
1. Growth. Continue linear growth in emission rate that existed since 1960.
2. Steady. Hold emissions at current level after 2020.
3. Stop. Ramp down emissions to zero by 2100.
Our likeliest path is between Steady and Stop.
While most trends are up, this one is down and has been for some time. It can be used to draw encouragement that the end is in sight for warming.
One interesting looking trend is carbon intensity (emissions/GDP). It's almost linear and set to intercept zero in 2070. So what happens if GDP continues to grow at 3% and we apply this linear function to it? 1/2

Hassett on ABC. Jon Karl wins.
He can BS with the best of them. Anyone with a little background knowledge on how Trump is using tariffs illegally can see right through this. I think he knows this because he does not address the question directly. Is Bolsonaro's treatment a US national emergency on trade? Can't connect the dots.

#Epstein
People don't like when there is one justice system for the rich and powerful and another for the common man. Trump is blind to this because he has benefitted a lot from this two-level system. DOJ protects him and the Epstein co-perps. Congress won't investigate this until the Dems get in.

Jonathan Karl grilled Hassett well on the tariffs. Lots of sidestepping needed there.

Rubio calls it streamlining. Lots of knowledge lost. More similar to a lobotomy. Now they will be blind to what's happening in various parts of the world.
A notice sent to State Department employees said 1,107 Civil Service workers and 246 Foreign Service officers will lose their jobs under Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s reorganization plan. Several offices focused on human rights, democracy, and refugee issues will be shut down.

Concerning about Grok. At least Copilot is reasonable.
"In short, climate change is no longer a future threat—it’s a present emergency. The decisions made this year could shape the planet’s trajectory for generations."
Can someone with access ask Grok4 this same question: is climate change an urgent threat?

Politics gets in the way of public safety (again). This should be amplified as a lesson.
In 2021, Biden admin awarded Kerr County TX $10m in American Rescue Plan Act funds, which could have been used for flood prevention infrastructure. But commissioners, facing political pressure from conservative residents, opted not to pursue warning system. www.texastribune.org/2025/07/10/t...

The Treasury is reporting a large #tariff income. Where's it coming from. Follow the money.
July 12, 2025 at 1:07 AM
There is no rational reason for these tariffs.
The tariffs are illegal and insane. How can they be enacted before the Supreme Court even has a chance to rule on them and strike them down? The national emergency IS the tariffs.
July 10, 2025 at 2:02 PM
Clearly this is Trump and only Trump. Nobody who knows how trade works would think this is a good idea. Bessent and Lutnick's jobs are to say "yes, sir".
Trump is posting his tariff "letters" to various countries on Truth Social, with Japan and South Korea posted so far. He also ends the letters with "thank you for your attention to this matter!"

I'll make this point again. There are other types of targets that I think are better than temperature targets.

a point I make over and over re: climate change is that there’s no point at which it’s time to throw up your hands and give up, because each tenth of a degree you can prevent is worth it

2C is better than 2.1C is better than 2.2C and so on and so forth

Emission rates continue to rise and so do temperatures. One thing that is already declining is carbon intensity (CO2/GDP). A feasible target accounting for a 3% world GDP growth can be just to continue that linear decline to net zero by 2070. Added warming is limited to 1°C.

We need rate targets, not temperature targets. Rate targets can be delayed but not failed. A sensible rate target would be a 25% reduction in emissions per decade. This would not require Net Zero but would achieve a substantial slowdown in climate change to adaptable rates by 2100.
What becomes of the 1.5°C goal now that global warming is approaching that level?🌍🔥🌡️

In a new @science.org Policy Forum we explain how the 1.5°C goal remains a critical legal & ethical benchmark, even as the world nears and may soon exceed 1.5°C of global warming🧵1/

The pursuit of 1.5°C endures as a legal and ethical imperative in a changing world
As the world nears 1.5°C of global warming, near-term emissions reductions and adequate adaptation become ever more important to ensure a safe and livable planet for present and future generations

Our new paper updating key metrics in the IPCC is now out, and the news is grim:

⬆️ Human induced warming now at 1.36C
⬆️ Rate of warming now 0.27C / decade
⬆️ Sharp increase in Earth's energy imbalance
⬇️ Remaining 1.5C carbon budget only 130 GtCO2

Indicators of Global Climate Change 2024: annual update of key indicators of the state of the climate system and human influence
Abstract. In a rapidly changing climate, evidence-based decision-making benefits from up-to-date and timely information. Here we compile monitoring datasets (published at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15639576; Smith et al., 2025a) to produce updated estimates for key indicators of the state of the climate system: net emissions of greenhouse gases and short-lived climate forcers, greenhouse gas concentrations, radiative forcing, the Earth's energy imbalance, surface temperature changes, warming attributed to human activities, the remaining carbon budget, and estimates of global temperature extremes. This year, we additionally include indicators for sea-level rise and land precipitation change. We follow methods as closely as possible to those used in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) Working Group One report. The indicators show that human activities are increasing the Earth's energy imbalance and driving faster sea-level rise compared to the AR6 assessment. For the 2015–2024 decade average, observed warming relative to 1850–1900 was 1.24 [1.11 to 1.35] °C, of which 1.22 [1.0 to 1.5] °C was human-induced. The 2024-observed best estimate of global surface temperature (1.52 °C) is well above the best estimate of human-caused warming (1.36 °C). However, the 2024 observed warming can still be regarded as a typical year, considering the human-induced warming level and the state of internal variability associated with the phase of El Niño and Atlantic variability. Human-induced warming has been increasing at a rate that is unprecedented in the instrumental record, reaching 0.27 [0.2–0.4] °C per decade over 2015–2024. This high rate of warming is caused by a combination of greenhouse gas emissions being at an all-time high of 53.6±5.2 Gt CO2e yr−1 over the last decade (2014–2023), as well as reductions in the strength of aerosol cooling. Despite this, there is evidence that the rate of increase in CO2 emissions over the last decade has slowed compared to the 2000s, and depending on societal choices, a continued series of these annual updates over the critical 2020s decade could track decreases or increases in the rate of the climatic changes presented here.

Meanwhile Lindzen and Happer predict "there will be disastrous consequences for the poor, people worldwide, future generations" if Net Zero works. Based on saying doubling from 400 to 800 ppm gives less than one more degree. Dangerous call for Executive Order.

This makes the MAGA racists over at Xitter crazy. They should follow the money to figure out Trump's priorities. Welcome to the oligarchy.
TACO Trump has abruptly directed ICE to halt all immigrant raids at farms, restaurants, hotels & the like. Trump also directed ICE to stop 'collateral arrests' where ICE randomly detains and arrests non-criminal immigrants. Looks like Gavin Newsom & the protestors have won.
