So I have been watching the national news media over the last few days, looking at when & how they started reporting on the situation in Los Angeles.
1) I was suspicious of the Trump/Musk kayfabe from the drop. Trump 2.0 always starts shit on Fridays, strange that the feud broke on a Thurs. 🤔

Journalists at mainstream US publications are absolutely allowed to engage in activism as long as it is aimed at reinforcing existing hierarchies and undermining progressive change. NYT news reporters recently engaged in a startlingly effective campaign against trans rights, for example.
This isn't meant to be a dunk, but I'm genuinely surprised when people don't understand that journalists generally cannot take part in activism if they want to be taken seriously as journalists

I've written about what happens when antibiotic research goes unfunded. Teams that worked for years to find and test badly needed new compounds break apart. Their institutional knowledge goes unrecorded. The compounds they worked on are lost to development.
