If the worst single-family house in your n’hood costs over $1 million, then your n’hood should be zoned for apartment buildings.

(It’s pretty much that simple)

From the 1970 Lexington town report. Still fighting this battle 56 years later. Time is a flat circle, etc, etc.

The artificer nodded. "I can build this wheeled chair, but why? You have an enchanted hover seat."

"Yes," the wizard fumed, "but the palace have erected magic-cancelling wards."

"Why?"

"Don't know. But they didn't think of people who need mobility aids. So I need wheels to go shout at the king."

Buried in a 57-page, windshield perspective traffic analysis report for an intersection near Lexington center I find the key nugget of context. As the parent of two future LHS students I say, gee thanks I guess.

This video by @mattcolville.bsky.social has changed the way I think about communities in pretty much every aspect of my life, and you should watch it.

They put in a curb extension somewhere on Main St in Medford and people on NextDoor are being extremely normal about it.

First appearance of the Luker Amendment at tonight’s planning board meeting! Our historical commission can apply a 21-month demo delay, but if the project will produce multi-family housing it’s reduced to 12 months.

I wrote something about our absurdly expensive proposed new high school, and how new multi-family housing development will help us pay for it.

Letter to the Editor: I found a cheat code for the high school project tax calculator
We can lessen the proposed new high school project’s impact on Lexington taxpayers with this one weird trick.

The governor’s office number is (617) 725-4005 if you would like to call and register your fury and disgust as I just did.
Massachusetts flags should not be lowered for Charlie Kirk. He was not an elected representative of the people. He was racist, sexist, homophobic, and did not support Massachusetts values of equal justice and freedom. #mapoli www.masslive.com/news/2025/09...
Flags will remain at half-staff after Sept. 11. Here’s why
The flags were lowered to half-staff Thursday for two reasons.

My janky, hand-me-down grill is too big and dirty to try fitting in the car so I’m wheeling it through the neighborhood to the temp rental house. The closer I get to the end the steeper it gets.

IMO simplest answer is that many people who advocate for IZ are either not thinking in an evidence based way or not motivated by Barbara's noble goals. That is backed up by evidence in Boston & many other places. Attitude towards IZ should be guided not by theory but by what happens on the ground.
